I would like to upgradge my processor speed - by getting a new chip.
How do u find out wot speed your motherboard will support?
Is there a program that finds it? or something?
Cheers

49493 2002-05-19 00:42:00 Your best bet would be to look it up on the manufacturers web site, if you can. Otherwise, here is a general rule:

Socket7 - AMD, Cyrix, Intel (133-266 MHz)
Super7 - K6 ( ~450MHz)
Socket 370 - PIII, Celeron (~133MHz)
SocketA - AMD
Slot1 - PII, PIII, Celeron
SlotA - Athlon (~800MHz)

This is a general guide only and may be slightly different to motherboard vendors reccomendations, which you should follow.

49494 2002-05-19 01:59:00 you will need to check with the manafucture. usual you need a bios update to enable you to use later cpu's. they should list what cpu's you can use and what bios ver you need. also be aware some makers have muliable versions of the same board. one ver may not support a certain cpu so check first.
