| 49622 | 2002-05-19 11:53:00 | I have two PCs networked by way of peer to peer, One is an 866Mhz PIII 512Ram The other a HP 350Mhz 128Ram I have had the smaller as internet gateway for shared internet and found it struggled so I changed the modem to the large PC only to find that it is slowed down whilst the internet is connected when not connected to the net it is back to itself fast as ever The OS on the large one is XP Pro the OS on the HP is ME is there a way to overcome this or 8is it part of being networked? |

Internal PCI modems are usually 'WinModems' which require significant computing power to operate. They are a collection of components that are told what to do, and when, by the CPU, which is resource sapping. In contrast an external stand-alone modem is a fully working device without requiring CPU resources. I simply will not use winmodems, prefer external devices for this reason. Hope this is of help TW |
