| 49588 | 2002-05-19 10:37:00 | Until Anzac Day Paradise was Heaven. Now this ISP has unfortunately decended into the abyss and falling further. After the kids come home from school and on holidays it worsens as the day progresses. When connected I get disconnected while working the net. Get disconnected from the help desk after holding for 20 mins. etc. What's the best ISP now? Hypernet? | Guest (0) | ||

The only person i know who is on dial up and not moaning is on quicksilver, allthough i'm told that thier international speed aint too good. I think it comes down too that you gets what you pay for........ O yeah alot of ISP's disconnect if idle, so have something running that keeps the connection active, and you'll be fine. Find a webcam or something! Happy surfing! |

| 49591 | 2002-05-19 11:28:00 | Daniel and Chris. I get 28.8 or 32kbps max. Worn out Telecom exchange. www.hyper.net.nz is the site. $9.95/month, 60 hours, no busy signals they say. Free help desk. What hours? Thanks guys. Pat. |

Paradise was still good but their service was starting to detereorate. Now that Telstra has taken over, Paradise, is quite bad. We get busy signals quite often. We get disconnected even when we are doing normal surfing. It is time paradise went good again, or I might have to change ISP again. And that is just a nusence. PLEASE GET BETTER :) :( |

| 49593 | 2002-05-19 23:37:00 | I think it is probably a case of the hordes. when people find out an isp is good, they go there on mass, the isp becomes crap, and they all leave for another, and the people who stay behind find it becomes better. So if all of those who are finding paradises service rubbish, and wish to leave, plase do so now, so we can all get on with our work... Jimbob. |

| 49594 | 2002-05-20 01:01:00 | I have been a Paradise dial up customer for 3 years now, but compared to other ISP's,I find them OK. Tried Actrix lately at night, then you will well and truly complain. | Guest (0) | ||
| 49595 | 2002-05-20 01:14:00 | Once upon a time most ISP's run a ratio of 1 line per 9 or 10 customers. This used to work well untill people started to get lazy, and got dedicated phone lines just so they didn't have to disconnect/reconnect to send/receive phone calls. Dial up should be for casual users, or those that can't get a permanant connection. Reality is too many dial-up people leave thier machines connected 24/7, or as close to that as they can. If the real heavy users did thier sums, they would soon realise that the computers phone line + ISP are about the same price as running a cable modem (probably same applies with DSL too) When such users make the change, dial up will be more available for casual users, which is after all what it is intended for. I'm on cable, and i dont get disconnected.. ever. This (or DSL) is what you must do if you are a heavy user and want reliability. Also it's only fair to those who just want to dial up and get thier email etc. |

| 49596 | 2002-05-20 01:39:00 | I've been with Paradise (dial-up) for over a year and find their service good. I never get disconnected, no busy signals, and downloads consistently over 5.5 kilobytes a second. | Guest (0) | ||
| 49597 | 2002-05-20 02:33:00 | most of my probs with paradise have actually been caused by telcom or the neighbour with his electric fence .....grrrrrrr however you have to remember that dsl is still rare. even world wide the majority of uses are still on modems. chris you are one of the lucky few who have cable in nz. i would love dsl but telecom have no plans to upgrade the exchange(or even fix the crappy lines). the catch is dsl won't work on poor lines regardless of distace. o joy ;-) |
