49932 2002-05-21 07:10:00 Hi, im wanting to shut 2 computers up. I have heard of fanless cooling systems. Are these risky?

I want to quiet a Pentium III 450mhz, and an Athlon 900mhz machines and their power supplies.

If I cant have a fanless system, what are some recomendations to quiet a PC in terms of the fans

Thanks in advance

49934 2002-05-21 09:19:00 apart from water cooling you can cut down the noise by useing a large effecient heatsink and mount a large SLOW fan on it. also you can get variable speed fans that will speed up when things warm up.

psu fans are normally quiet so mayby a bit of TLC needed.

also small things like cutting out the punched metal grills and replacing them with wire ones. more airflow plus less turbulance hence less noise.

then theres the soundproofing you can insulate your pc with.

Some add a (slow / var speed) fan in front of the box to draw air in and another in the back to push it out.

Rounded cables also help to minimise obstruction to the airflow.
