49910 2002-05-21 06:40:00 I have Office 2000 operating in Win 98. Whenever I try to open a Word document the process does not complete. I see a message in the bottom right of the screen 'requesting virus scan' and the only way out is Ctrl/Alt/Del and I then get the message 'system dangerously low on resources.' All my other applications open fine. What's happening and how do I fix it? Guest (0)
49911 2002-05-21 08:10:00 I haven't come across this particular problem, although I also run the same programme and Win98 but wondered if you had tried temporarily disabling your anti-virus programme to see if that helps. If not, you know the problem is in Word and not the anti-virus programme.

Do you have the Office 2000 repair feature? That usually fixes the odd problems I have, although it does reset all the settings to standard.

Good luck

49912 2002-05-22 01:47:00 What virus software are you using? Norton Antivirus has a Office plug-in which scans each office document for viruses before it opens them and will display requesting virus scan... in the status bar when opening a document.

You can disable it using the following procedure:

1) Open Norton Antivirus.

2)Click on the options button.

3)Click on Miscellaneous.

4)Untick the box that says enable office plug-in.

Done.
