| 50584 | 2002-05-24 11:24:00 | Ok starting the computer from a 'complete' shut down, a strange sound comes from the tower casing like a rotating component is off-set or is rubbing. The noise stops when the windows icon appears. The computer seems to be working fine, and no abnormal crashes, any ideas of what it could be would be great. Pentium 3 667, 13 gig hard drive, 50x cd rom, nividia geforce mx 64, 256 ram. |

Try opening up the case and making sure that its attached properly and hasnt come loose. if it is fitted properly then i would suggest either a) take it off and grease the bearings or b) buy a new one from Dick Smith or any other computer shop. | Guest (0) | ||

Disconnect the case fan if necessary if you think it may be that one (for elimination purposes only), but I wouldn't disconnect the cpu or graphics fans. Replace with new rather than grease or spray. Also, check for rattles from the sides of the cases: put your hands on the case to see if you can stop it. Take the sides off and see if you can locate the noise within. Etc etc. |
