50627 2002-05-25 00:36:00 I am about to venture into the Registry and I need someone to help please. I am trying to repair a minor problem. I have no system sounds. I had posted earlier and advised to go into 'sounds' from Control Panel. No luck there so I searched microsoft and found that I should have these registry keys.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\ .Default

and

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Defaul t\.Default

Now, when I go to these locations via regedit I find that the only thing there is this: (Default) (value not set)

What do I do now? I have already backed up Registry but not sure exactly how to add these resgistry keys.

thanks

50628 2002-05-25 01:22:00 Sam - you may have to go back to the MS site and get a bit more detail about the entry that is supposed to be there. It should advise whether or not the entry is a DWORD etc with a binary setting and so on.

with that you can then add the entry. Just remember where the entry went so that if you have to remove it can.

You should ensure a backup is made of the registry first.

50629 2002-05-25 08:40:00 Hi Sam, all the system sounds that you have lost are in a folder called MEDIA under C:\Windows do you still have this folder? It only contains the system sounds and a sub folder called Office xxxx containing the office specific system sounds.

50631 2002-05-25 09:25:00 Thanks Peter,

You were right they were there. Music to my ears but............what do I do now? How do I get these sounds to play again. When I go to |control panel & gt; sounds & gt; there are 2 options there under scheme: 'Windows Default Scheme' & .default. I have played around with both of these without success. In the Sounds Events window there are 3 headings: Microsoft Portfolio, MSN Messenger , & Microsoft Works Task Launcher. There are 'speaker' symbols under 2 of these (not under MSN Messenger).

Any help ideas appreciated.

cheers
