50720 2002-05-25 11:23:00 I have just noticed an e-mail address in my Run drop down menu accessed from my Start menu. It is on the list with MSCONFIG, SYSTEM, and DIRECTX.
I don't recognise the address at all. When I highlight it, an Outlook Express new mail page appears with the address on it. I haven't been game to send it as I don't know what it will bring.

I'm hoping someone can tell me how this address got here in the first place, whether it is sinister, and how I can remove it from the Run menu?
I run AVG (updated regularly) and ZoneAlarm.
I'm a relatively new internet user.

Thanks
Anne

The drop down list from the Run command isn't a 'menu' as such, rather its just a list of recently run programs or shortcuts. Having an email address in your Run recent list just means that somebody has typed an email address in there and clicked OK (doesn't even mean that its been sent). Every time you click on it and click OK it moves it to the most recently run. Files eventually drop off this list as you run more and more different programs or shortcuts through the Run command, but I'd hazard a guess to say that its fine being there, nothing malicious at all.

You can remove it from the drop-down list, but for a fairly new user I'd recommend that you don't try it, as it involves accessing the system registry, which can be a bit daunting, and quite dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

HTH

Thanks for that explanation.
What still puzzles me is how an address got on the list, as I am the only one using my computer and I certainly didn't put it in there.

Any ideas.
Anne.
