2002-05-26 03:16:00 I am upgrading my business PC and would like to ensure all sensitive data is totally wiped from my old machine which will be sold. Is there any way to do this so it cannot later be retrieved by a restore program? Guest (0)
2002-05-26 03:53:00 You could use the 'wipe.exe' programme from IBM. Use the search window at the top of this page to search for 'wipe.exe'. About the 3rd match in the results page gives the URL. Guest (0)
2002-05-26 03:59:00 fdisk, format then use a program that copies radom data all over the drive. nortons has a basic one but there are better ones around. i'll have to search for a link later.

just be aware that it is still possible to recover data (at a huge expence) so if its 'top secret' info destroy the drive. have fun with a sledgehammer or a shotgun ;-)

2002-05-27 11:13:00 If you have access to Norton Utilities (even an old DOS version should do - boot into DOS to run it) you should find a prog called wipeinfo which was reputedly military strength obliteration. Guest (0)
