50965 2002-05-27 00:50:00 Arrrrgh!
Is it my imagination or have telstrasaturn just sneakily upped their prices just when I was thinking about getting them?
Ok - so a 128kbit connection now costs 49.95 PLUS 17 for cable modem rental. I seem to remember it was 62 all up or 52 if you got the phone included.
Can you buy cable modems separately (may be a bit cheaper in the long term)? If so can anyone recommend one and give us an idea of how much they are. I've only seen dsl modems for sale so far.

Cheers.

50966 2002-05-27 02:23:00 umm to my knowledge there has been no change in the prices, and i been on one for over a year now!

I don't believe it is possable to use your own cable modem as such for the following reasons; Unlike DSL you are sharing taps on a fibre optic cable run down your street, and stuff for your IP address is sorted from the noize by the cable modem, therefore thier are things about it that are specific for you/your location... Atleast that is what the salesman/semi tech person told me when i first asked all the questions one would before connecting. He may have been full of it.

Best ask that question to telstra/clear/saturn, it is after all thier network!
