1301998 2012-09-18 22:29:00 Hi Team

For some strange reason Xtra is returning a password error when I try to logon to my email via Mailwasher, or via Outlook direct. It is particularly odd, because I can still logon via Y-E webmail, which of course uses the identical user name and password. I have seen this error on odd occasions in the past, but if I recall correctly, it all came right if I shut down my email then opened it again. That trick does not work on this occasion, and a reboot hasn't helped either. I did re-enter the password, but that was not really going to help.

My Orcon account continues as normal.

Any ideas?

Cheers

1301999 2012-09-18 22:48:00 Xtra mail has been like this for quite a long, long time - I think since Yahoo took over.

The problem will go away 'by-it-self' after sometime - no one knows exactly how long though! Yahoo's mail server is really crap - full of spams, too - one has to update the spam filter every now and then, it's annoying!

Thanks bk T That definitely fits the behaviour I have observed, so I'll just wait it out then.

1302001 2012-09-18 23:45:00 Telecom Xtra Yahoo are 'once again' having issues. I spent a bit of time on the phone yesterday as my problem was escalated and I ended up with a particularly nice lady who sounded competent but exasperated. I got a begrudging admission that they are a tad overwhelmed and the problem is as usual Yahoo.
What galls me is that Telecom fails to appreciate in their rush to embrace the newest and best is the sheer size of loyal albeit luddite users, old folks who just want it to work when they switch on and need it to be easy as. Telecom once again needs to take a size 10 boot to Yahoo for the continued random failures and dont get me started on the intrusive ads when Telecom used to give customers Yahoo promail (ad free).

They could have chosen a more reliable host than Yahoo, certainly.

But, if you have a browser that can support Stylish scripts (natively or by plugin) there's one good script that cleans the whole XtraMail Webmail interface right up and removes all the ads too.

I talk of this: userstyles.org

Have you read Yahoo's terms & conditions?? You agreed to them when you 1st went into xtra/yahoo webmail :p

Actually, telecom need to take that boot & kick themselves , & keep kicking themselves
Then give us a go at kicking them.

They are by far, the largest ISP in NZ. Yet they have one of the most unreliable email services (yahoo).
Its been unreliable since day 1, Alarm bells should have gone off after all the issues just after the switch to yahoo.
Somethings very very wrong, if a company as large as Telecom, dont seem to be able to, or dont want to host the PAYING customers email themselves, in NZ .

In essence, Telecom dont give a stuff about home customers email.
If they advertised there email services as being what it actually was, YAHOO, crap, unreliable , many would look elsewhere for
another ISP before signing up.
Unfortunately , many home users dont want to, or dont know how to sign up for a gmail a/c .

few, rant over

Sure enough, two days later it just came right.
