1301309 2012-09-16 11:27:00 Hey,

I'm trying to find out if HP has a free tool which will email an alert if it detects a hardware fault (ie. HDD failing). I can view all this information from ILO and the Management Homepage but neither has the ability to email out alerts from what I can see. Dell servers can do this via DRAC.

I tried attaching an email alert to the System event log but it fails because I'm using an SMTP server which doesn't require authentication and Windows sends credentials of the user running the task.

Appreciate any help.

You may want to look at PRTG. If it's not free, it's cheap.

Also BLAT is a great freeware SMPT mail sender. Very handy for BAT / CMD scripts

1301311 2012-09-16 20:42:00 Check out Mobile PC Monitor, the free version will monitor up to 5 computers/servers.
Great piece of software that has free smartphone apps so you can get alerts on your phone if a monitored event is triggered.

1301312 2012-09-16 21:55:00 That looks really good, CYaBro. Especially good if you only need to monitor up to 5!! linw (53)
1301313 2012-09-17 00:29:00 It is a great program, we have about 30 computers that we currently monitor with it, but that is growing all the time.
Chillisoft are the local reseller for it, they also do the Eset products.

1301314 2012-09-17 02:46:00 Thanks for the replies. I basically only want to monitor for hardware issues. I installed Mobile PC Monitor but it doesn't seem to pick up the hardware devices when I go to add them, not sure if it can interface with the HP Agents.

I'll have a look at BLAT tonight.

1301315 2012-09-17 03:05:00 Looks like you need the HP Systems Insight Manager (h18013.www1.hp.com) tmrafi (5179)
1301316 2012-09-18 04:02:00 BLAT to the rescue, thanks whoever suggested that!

1. Create a custom view in event viewer
2. Attach a task to it to run a batch script
3. Create the batch script to email via BLAT

It won't tell me what the actual event viewer error is but I can log in and check that easily enough, issues sorted!
