2012-09-14 00:54:00 | Still running my coal-fired SOYO Ultra-Plat Dragon PC here - (the new one is a little late in arriving) - and I've got a question . When I move my mouse, the sound stops-stutters-pops and sputters if it (the pointer) doesn't get locked in a far corner, where I have to hit CTRL to find where it's gone . I've re-installed the mouse-ware CD with the program on it, and even gone back to an old ball-type mouse and still every time I move the mouse - scroll a page - add a new tab ---- the sound cuts out . I know it's not my internet speed, since I can do all sorts of things on the other computers when they are all running, and it doesn't harm the sound here at all . I THOUGHT it was my IPS's speed, but that got disproved to me . Don't ask . When the sound cuts out and on, it sounds like one is rapidly flipping a toggle switch - the music keeps on playing in sync, but it just goes on and off until I quit moving the mouse - and then it takes a moment or two to settle down . ALSO -- this mouse has started a new (bad) habit that isn't only this Logitech brand optical/USB/wired one but even some old roller-type mices - in that it likes to get locked in the borders of the screen and I can't find it until, like I said: I hit the CTRL key and then smash the mouse (either-all of them) a lot on the desk and it eventually comes back . OK - that isn't a highly technical repair - the smashing - but I feel good doing it and there's that to consider too . I have feelings and I hope the mouse does too . Bad Mousey! Yes --- Almighty! YES! - I am in dire need now - today - yesterday for that new 'puter - but like grey hair, it's arriving slowly . I've got a silly suspicion that unlike fine wine, cheese and some women --- this PC is not as good as it once was . In the meantime, can anyone suggest how I don't go to jail for Statutory Mouse-abuse?

2012-09-14 02:21:00 | Does it occur in specific applications, or all the time even on the desktop? Have you tried updating graphics driver? What Operating system and specs? Can you try booting to a Linux live CD to verify whether its a software or hardware issue?

2012-09-14 02:54:00 | Does it occur in specific applications, or all the time even on the desktop? Have you tried updating graphics driver? What Operating system and specs? Can you try booting to a Linux live CD to verify whether its a software or hardware issue? I'll answer the last question first . #4 - I am 'fraid of anything in an OS that starts with the letter: L #3 - XP-Pro, all the latest SPs and updated Hotfixes, etc . , 'Puter is running an olde Athlon XP-1 . 7GHz w/o o'clocking; 2 . 5(?)G o'RAM; MSSE, #2 - Uh . No I haven't . I think I have the spec sheet (and the name) of the graphics card somewhere - I'll have to run with the name of the audio card as a faint memory though - PCI XTreme something-or-other . The Graphics card maybe is a 5500 GeForce - prolly quite old but I know it has some RAM on it and a fan . #1 - Here's something I have observed for the past couple of weeks though . When I shut down at night with that short program I got from youse guys, I see when I start back up the next day that Chrome reports that it crashed and would I like to restore it . I say: NO - but even if I wasn't ON Chrome the night before, I always see that there are 5 TABS and 3 PAGES that it reports were shut off abruptly last time . So --- just a few moments ago, I turned on my TASK MANAGER and saw that there were 11 CHROME entries indicated as running - and again I AM NOT RUNNING CHROME AT THAT MOMENT NOR ON THIS DAY EVEN! When I run YouTube, it always is out of sync and the pix may stop-start and the sound may chatter, even though another 'puter and especially my Nexus7 can run the same things at the same time with no hang-ups or problems . My PC on CAT5e directly to my router will stop running and just spool for a bit then start up, and at the same time on WIFI my Eee-PC and Nexus7 have no troubles at all . It's the sto-o-opid mouse that's driving me crazy now though . Can someone send me some C4 in a Vegemite container? Or will Vegemite work all by itself as an explosive under the right circumstances?

2012-09-14 03:01:00 | I want you to listen carefully, if you have 11 chrome processes running when you are not using chrome, you have serious issues. If it was me I would back up any important stuff, format and reinstall XP Or at LEAST run HiJackThis and post the log file here for speedy to peruse.

2012-09-14 03:06:00 | ...and as a further experiment, I loaded up a Canadian streaming radio program via Chrome and the Chrome count jumped up 5 more instances! So just running a radio program on Chrome gets me 16 Chrome entries in my Task Manager. Somehow, and as technicalistic as I am, I know that's wrong.

2012-09-14 03:35:00 | Post it in a new thread to alert speedy. I have run it through the auto analyzer here http://www.hijackthis.de/ Can't see much that's nasty but a lot of the stuff you have running on start up is not really needed. Best leave it to speedy though as he has vastly more experience with HJT than I do.
