2012-05-26 16:40:00 | Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has signed a law aimed at keeping the state's courts or government agencies from basing decisions on Islamic or other foreign legal codes, and a national Muslim group's spokesman said Friday that a court challenge is likely. The new law, taking effect July 1, doesn't specifically mention Shariah law, which broadly refers to codes within the Islamic legal system. Instead, it says courts, administrative agencies or state tribunals can't base rulings on any foreign law or legal system that would not grant the parties the same rights guaranteed by state and U.S. constitutions. "This bill should provide protection for Kansas citizens from the application of foreign laws," said Stephen Gele, spokesman for the American Public Policy Alliance, a Michigan group promoting model legislation similar to the new Kansas law. "The bill does not read, in any way, to be discriminatory against any religion." But supporters have worried specifically about Shariah law being applied in Kansas court cases, and the alliance says on its website that it wants to protect Americans' freedoms from "infiltration" by foreign laws and legal doctrines, "especially Islamic Shariah Law." This may become a single states action that escalates to Federal Law. The whole effect will be a general 'softening' of popular opinion that can be used to entertain other international 'laws' that have been invoked in US courts by illegal 'tourists' who cannot by law actually claim to be protected by laws to which they do not ascribe. Call this a little nibble at the illegal alien problem. Precedents have come from much more humble starts.

2012-05-26 22:17:00 | Yeah, you do know that Pakeha means "White pig" or "White devil. :D | ChazTheGeek (16619) | |
2012-05-26 22:38:00 | Pakeha means non- Maori... hence how 'ignorant' or 'offensive' or 'non'pc' it would be it minorities were referred to as non-whites. As for the op, I hate how religion has anything to do with law, but if you go to what ever country you should play by their rules. Obviously this hasnt happened since the age of tree huggery is here. | rob_on_guitar (4196) | |

2012-05-27 00:12:00 | Oh dear, the old "definition of Pakeha" debate again whoopee **** According to FE Maning who as an old man, wrote 'Old New Zealand' first published in 1897 and describing how he arrived here as a young boy and lived with Maori in "the good old days," when canabalism and utu was still practised, and before The Treaty of Waitangi, Pakeha means Englishman or foreigner. He described himself as a Pakeha Maori

2012-05-27 00:47:00 | But like everything else Maori, it has been modified (if thats the right term) to suit the current political environment. Now it means "white New Zealander of English descent", a New Zealander of Chinese, Indian, Pacific Island, Australian origin etc, is not a "Pakeha", it is only New Zealanders of white European (English) origin. It is racist and offensive in this "PC" world we have allowed to be created. | Iantech (16386) | |
2012-05-27 01:01:00 | Pakeha to me is a very offensive term. You can tell the way some of the ethnics snigger or over emphasis its pronunciation when they say the word. White, European, Caucasian, Aryan, British/English descendant fine by me. But being called a pig isn't fine my me. It would have described me when I was a young fella on the piss but I moved on a bit since then. | prefect (6291) | |
