| 1276981 | 2012-05-23 18:27:00 | I swear that there can't be enough n00bs to actually open the bloatware in new OSs and actually click on >>Install . McAfee can ONLY be relying on ignorant people who like their systems slowed down and generally mucked-with, since once a person has survived the first couple of years, McAfee and Norton is quickly fading in the rear view mirrors of anyone who mistakenly thought it was actually good . And for a hefty fee too . Here's a blurb::: McAfee has been repeatedly reporting about a surge of malware on Googles Android mobile operating system, but it looks like PC users should really be watching their desktops and laptops more closely than ever . According to McAfees threats report for the first quarter of 2011, PC malware reached its highest levels in four years . The primary attacks were increases in rootkits and password stealers, the latter of which round out to nearly approximately 1 million new samples in Q1 2012 . Overall, McAfee Labs detected more than 75 million malware samples by the end of 2011 . If you add in Q1 2012, the total jumps to 83 million pieces . Here's the headline - I think McAfee got to write it themselves::: "McAfee sees 'malware explosion' across desktop, mobile platforms" ( . zdnet . com/blog/btl/mcafee-sees-malware-explosion-across-desktop-mobile-platforms/77531?tag=nl . e539" target="_blank">www . zdnet . com) <--- that's a link too . |

I think the term "snake oil salesmen" was invented for companies like Norton and Mcafee.... In all the time I have been running Android (2 years?), I haven't been infected with a single piece of malware - and I am not running any preventatives. |

| 1276985 | 2012-05-26 09:43:00 | I recently joined NZ Telecom broadband. As a Telecom Broadband or Dial Up customer, you get 5 FREE Telecom Security Suite licences, powered by world class McAfee, worth over $95 per licence, per year. I never took up the offer. It is not like me to turn down something that is free. |
