1276832 2012-05-22 15:56:00 The wife just got back from Costco - a major retailer all over the US - with a product that is purportedly from Australia .

I know they have a website that appears to be in Australia - but is the 'Lucky Country' a fake name just to hype a candy product in the US or is it a really, cherished Aussie iconic candy maker?

FWIW: their soft black liquorice/licorice is very good .

'Lucky Country' sounds kinda like Chinese that didn't translate into English very well - you know what I mean .

1276833 2012-05-22 22:08:00 It's a colloquialism bestowed on Oz by a writer, can't remember who, who was extracting the Michael from the inhabitants of said country who thought all they had to do was sit back and wait for riches to flow into their pockets

Lucky Country Licorice

Appears to be based in NC and probably imports the licorice into the States

Changed the Lucky Country info

1276835 2012-05-22 22:52:00 I had the Lucky-country link, but thought it might just be zoned for access here in the US.

The candy is KILLER though! It's a toss up between it and Schweitser's.

ALSO ---> for whom it may concern- Montana has NO ACCESS to Kool-Aid. I'm working on it - and you know who you are!

1276836 2012-05-23 00:33:00 In a similar vein Joe, New Zealand is colloquially known as God's Own or Godzone, so we know that at least God is on our side. (If you believe in that kind of thing.) Richard (739)

1276838 2012-05-23 02:02:00 There may be a certain amount of 'luck' shown each day when the upturned tectonic plates don't swallow youse guys up.

Or the resulting tsunami doesn't go all the way up your street.

Speaking of which (tsunamis, et all) and their aftermath - there is a flotsam island from Japan the size of NZ floating it's way to the West Coast of the US. It promises to be the great eco-assault of all time. Wait - they reelected Moonbeam Brown - so I may be off the mark here a tad.

Any day now. The Coast Guard already shot up an abandoned ship that had escaped from Japan.
