1276586 2012-05-23 09:00:00 anti-smacking bill we had a referendum, 88% said no, yet they ignored it

In spite of the referendum's 88%, opinion polls showed that most people were in favour of the bill (removing the defence of "parental discipline" when a child gets injured). The people who signed the petition were whipped into a frenzy by misguided religious people and faulty wording in the question.

But in the case of selling public assets, just about everybody is spontaneously agin it, on all sides

The National Party will never be trusted again. They are hoping to make a big enough killing to keep them personally rich regardless of future elections

Again, quite funny how you see things through rose-colored glasses. It's fine for Labour to ignore the results and say that everybody was just in a mis-guided frenzy over it, and yet when *precisely* the same thing comes about a few years later wearing blue instead of red, all hell is about to break loose.

1276588 2012-05-23 09:18:00 There's an interesting comparison of the assets sold by Labour versus the assets sold by National here: www.whaleoil.co.nz Terry Porritt (14)

I was one of the "misguided people" that saw the anti-smacking bill for what it truly was, and is, and voted against it in a democratic referendum that was democratically ignored. I assure you I have no agendas and my religious beliefs do not identify me with any groups or churches and I tend to follow my own faulty convictions.

The fact of the matter is that Labour has proven a referendum is not worth the paper is written on if it prevaricates political interests.

1276593 2012-05-24 01:52:00 Has anybody got any *hard* figures on the amount of money these state assets make the country in terms of raw profit each year?

What an unusual question!we don't want facts interfering with our discussion.

Couples' earning $120,000.00 and over apparently receive a $10,000.00 benefit, going by the tv news the other night.

Lurking.
