1301860 2012-09-24 00:47:00 There is a lovely blue sky outside. But..........Above my head is a small dense black cloud. With PF1 help we WILL clear that away...Wont we? PJ Poppa John (284)
1301861 2012-09-24 00:52:00 Re Post 40 - Nope, its a Cloning / Imaging software/CD that is made from the Active@ program.

Same link as post 18 livecd.com/ if you click on the download Button, or http: on the right is the downloads, its 179MB, its the trial but works fully for (cant remember how many days now). But it has the full cloning or imaging applications. Personally I use the "create image" as mentioned before, as sometimes when working with infected drives they dont clone correctly, but will do if Imaging.

1301862 2012-09-24 01:20:00 You have my sympathy PJ as I’ve been down a similar road. :crying

See HERE (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz). Just changing the partition size so all the tables were re-written was all that would work for me.

However, I had a programme to do it with and Paragon isn’t free as far as I know. :groan:

1301864 2012-09-24 06:26:00 Having another go.
40GB is in laptop. 160GB is in NexStar.
Using Macrium Reflect to clone. 160 plugged into laptop. Macrium is asking for destination drive. Cannot see the 160 Icon on My Computer. It is there in Managedment-Drives.

How do I get it to reveal itself to macrium? PJ
Poppa John (284)
1301865 2012-09-24 06:46:00 Dont actually use macrium myself, as a couple of times I tried it, it wouldn't do what I was after.

But maybe someone who does use it can confirm or not, maybe its not capable of cloning to a USB drive.

Edited:
Just found this From Macriums site/forum: support.macrium.com

Cloning and Imaging are two different things.

1301866 2012-09-24 07:03:00 W...Ok, had a look at that.My problem at the moment is that I dont have a drive number, was "E", to use as a destination. Any Ideas? PJ Poppa John (284)
1301867 2012-09-24 07:09:00 No suggestions sorry.

Active @ wont clone to a USB drive either (just tried via the installed program not CD) You can select the Drive to Clone, but while the USB does show as being there, its grayed out, so not available, but it will image perfectly, that I do all the time.

Normally when cloning you are doing it Via a SATA or IDE cable, not USB, that could be one reason the previous attempts failed as well with Acronis.

1301869 2012-09-29 06:55:00 All Fixed.
First to Nick G for the link below.
pcsupport.about.com

Next to all the PF1ers who offered help.

Next to Desade & Barnabas. You know what for.

Now the problem was MBR Error & not being able to assign a drive letter to the 160 GB drive. Lhe link showed me how to get right inside Disc Management. From there I was able to Format the new drive. then, usinng Marium Reflct, I cloned the 40GB to the 160GB.Swapped the 160 for the 40 in the laptop& all was sweet.
I will keep the 40GB in the NexStar for a while just in case. & reformat it as it is as a backup. Thanks again PJ
