1276556 2012-05-22 11:44:00 Look what happened went they sold off Telecom or whatever it was called before the then National Government sold it. Became one of the biggest if not biggest money making private company in NZ. Tills you how will governments can run companys.
:)

Not exactly Trev. Telecom is very much a public company - not private. Initially it did very well - it used to take 6 weeks to get a new phone line, that became 3 days, and now almost instant. Still, Telecom has been a sharemarket dog. $8/share in 2000 but today - $2.50. Imagine the screams if the public still owned it.

1276557 2012-05-22 11:47:00 Recently I needed some money - so I sold a bit of stuff on Trademe.

Strangely my family, my neighbours, and the Green/Labour/NZ First parties didn't contact me and try to stop the sales.

Weird huh?

Were those assets earning you big money?

1276560 2012-05-22 22:22:00 Has anybody got any *hard* figures on the amount of money these state assets make the country in terms of raw profit each year?

I'm still interested to know just HOW MUCH money these "assets" are supposedly making us, but I'm yet to see any hard evidence.

You won't because if they revealed that it tell us how much we are being ripped off

The biggest improvement in work order processing just happened to coincide with the arrival of computers in the office. Files didn't have to be physically moved around or get lost. Nothing to do with privatisation.

1276563 2012-05-23 00:33:00 Well it was, they only said they wouldn't sell stuff in the first term. The only people who don't want asset sales are commies or lefties and their views don't count all.
A lovely black and white world you live in Prefect, please tell me where it is.:)

Also most of the network had just been upgraded so initially they didn't need to make any major investment in it.
