1301726 2012-09-18 04:46:00 Jelly bean was good to look at and pretty smooth but I don't think it really does anything better than gingerbread on my phone to be honest.

Speed and smoothness are pretty good reasons if you ask me :D

Anyways I've had my brother install the Onkyo app on his i9000 JB ROM and run it to my receiver just fine, same as my One X (AOSP Jellybean) and Nexus 7... Definitely cool to be able to do that with your receiver huh? :D

1301727 2012-09-20 07:45:00 OK, the continuing saga.
It's been working fine with 2.3.6 or so I thought. turns out the mobile data is not working. I have checked the IMEI and APN settings, what now?
Currently I'd be happy to go back to official NZ vodafone firmware but how do I do that? I can't find it anywahere.

1301728 2012-09-20 08:38:00 I did a similar thing here, but with a Vodafone U8160-U. I nearly killed it too lol. But managed to get it to work again (the first time I forgot to wipe the data), and 2.3.7 (using Cyanogenmod 7.2 kept looping on bootup). Until I wiped everything and reinstalled the zipped file with CMW). Lucky it worked, because I didnt make a backup of the stock rom.

Lucky for me it was already unlocked because goomanager (which some sites say, is what you use to root it, doesnt work / isnt compatible with this phone). There is another program, you can use, but I cant remember the name. I like the Canon app on the Google play site. Which lets me scan from the MX436, and save it either as a pdf, or jpg file on the phone

1301729 2012-09-20 10:49:00 sammobile.com should have some of the versions of VFNZ firmware for the i9000. inphinity (7274)
1301730 2012-09-20 12:21:00 A few things:
1) Can you still make calls / txt OK?
2) Does it work via WiFi?
3) Does the likes of Gtalk work? The browser?
4) How many APNs are there?
5) Which RADIO firmware version are you running?
Chilling_Silence (9)
1301731 2012-09-20 20:11:00 1) yes
2) yes
3) Gtalk? browser yes but only via wi-fi
4) 3, removed and reinstalled via vodafones confg service. didn't really help
5) No Idea, how do I find this out?

I put the Darky ROM back on and it's working, but speeds are 400/50 kbps which is terrible. Not sure if it's coverage or what, will try again from work where I typically got 1.5-2 mbps before all this and see

1301732 2012-09-20 22:24:00 Gtalk is Google Talk, it's the "Talk" app on your phone :)
It sometimes has worked for me in the past where port 80 / 443 hasn't.

1301733 2012-09-21 00:17:00 Ok The Darky ROM has sorted it, and I've found a stock ROM also but when I tried flashing from 2.3.6 back to stock it went into boot loops again. Is it possible flashing stock over something with CWM is the problem there?
I might try going from Darky to stock as it's almost the same version. Should I be doing a factory reset and wiping the cache before flashing a new ROM?

An unusual side problem, the trademe app refuses to work on this phone on any of the firmware I've recently tried, it crashes after entering login details and force closes. Exact same symptoms on Jelly bean and two different Gingerbread ROMs

And whatever Gtalk is for I've never used it.

1301734 2012-09-21 00:40:00 Thats what can happen if you dont wipe the disk before flashing another ROM. It can or will loop. Dont think you have to do a factory reset tho. I havent yet. And every ROM I've tried / flashed works fine Speedy Gonzales (78)
1301735 2012-09-21 00:53:00 Yup probably boot looping coz you didn't factory reset.

As Speedy mentioned: If you're changing ROM vendors, do a factory reset.
However if you're going from Darkys 10.6 to 10.7 for example, you probably don't need to. Same for if you're upgrading between the likes of CyanogenMod Nightly builds (Just another example), no wipe needed.

Gtalk is used for instant messaging, it's built into all Android devices (That come with the Play Store at least, so I'm unsure about the Kindle Fire), and ties in with your desktop through the Google Talk app, Gmail in your browser, Google+... It's similar to iMessage, only better in a lot of ways, though less "transparent" (In the sense that you have to explicitly message somebody on their Gtalk account).
