2012-05-27 09:38:00 | And this is why anyone in hospital that goes for an operation is asked their identity and reason for surgery EVERY step of the way. There must have been some precedent that set this process in action - hate to think what happened to those that had the wrong bits taken out. Try asking a cat these questions. The cat would not have a clue of it's identity or why it was there.

You think? www.hdc.org.nz And, can't say how I know - an appendix removal was scheduled recently, right up to wheeling them into the room, problem was surgeon hadn't checked to see if patient had one - which they didn't. |

2012-05-27 23:41:00 | When I broke my elbow and had to go in to get it pinned, they wheeled me and put me on the table before cancelling due to an emergency coming in to ER. I got sent home and rescheduled but then got sick so it was nearly 2 weeks before I could go back by which time my elbow had started to set so they had to re break it before pinning it

2012-05-27 23:48:00 | That really sucks :-/ Surely it wouldn't be *that* hard to have name tags on the front of the cages (In the middle of the cage not above / below the cage where you can easily get confused). Poor owners though, my wife would be pretty devastated if that happened to us!

2012-05-28 00:09:00 | As a patient write in black indelible marker, for instance: 'this is the knee to be operated on' and on the other 'wrong knee go other side', quite simple really. The hospitals should be doing this as a matter of course so the patient provides a constant double-check. So obvious, but of course too simple for these heralded institutions. Many times, whilst working in factories, I have seen so many stupid mistakes made, you can't assume anything, always check and double-check, even then there will still be mistakes.
