1276948 2012-05-23 22:48:00 A spare.
Right, so this costs money and just sits accumulating rust. Sell it.

20Km? Its 56Km round trip for me to work each day.

Son does 170km round trip.
We don't keep spare cars.

Dont judge by what you read or understand the situation. It was not costing money sat in the dry back of the garage or rusting! or should say was not until this latest situation. Did you consider work situation requirements? Did think about selling it however not much value being 20 years old. Then again we no longer have a spare vehicle due to the situation.:annoyed: just a vehicle thats now gathering dust undrivable and yes costing money sat in the back gathering dust because of a system that gives no refunds.

The distance qouted was 20kms minimum TO work average work trip is split shifts of about 84kms per day min with the other half working differant hours (hence need for second vehicle), I bet we still pay less to run our vehicles than it costs many to pay their rent and mortgage living in the centre of town serviced by everything in close proximity?

In our current situation glad it was not the diesel that went wrong!!!!

Still does not make any differance for paying for something you can not use.

1276949 2012-05-23 22:56:00 I pay for only 3 months rego at a time. It works out dearer than paying a whole year, but that's all I can afford at one time. I wonder how that works out if I have to put the car off the road for repairs?

LL

Just for your info it cost $6.75 in administration fee on any period of rego, so over 12 months you end up paying and extra $20.25 for every 3 months during that 12 months (nearly 1 months worth on a petrol). Like I said already if you put the car off the road the licence still runs until the end of the paid period then you can put it on hold for up to 12 months however if the repair is done within 3 months there is no point in placing it on hold. However there is a loophole which requires forward thinking to work.

Thats the point though you do not get a refund unless you scrap a vehicle! or avoid that 3 month stand down period unless you advanced think.

1276950 2012-05-23 23:14:00 Regos should be like diesel miles, the more you drive the more you pay. Calculated via road tolls everywhere. Gobe1 (6290)
1276951 2012-05-23 23:33:00 Seems pretty well like a perfect system to me. I register my camper bus for 6 months and put it on hold for one year and and register it 4 or 5 months later.
Its free can be done on online. Cheap rego compared to OZ and poverty rock. Cheaper than USA because you dont have to insure your vehicle here. You can cause carnage on the road and cant get sued for it ACC pays.
Perfect system like the Spitfire test pilot who fist took the spit for a test flight.
Don't touch a thing he said.
Pretty sure some people would complain if they fell down a toilet and found a gold bar.

1276952 2012-05-24 09:32:00 Yes it is a good system until you come across this flaw I highlighted. Then it starts to cost you money!

Owning a Diesel and also running a commercial vehicle for work I can see problems with the idea of RUCs on all vehicles from those less honest and harder to enforce. However the idea may have some merit on comercial vehicles fitted with hubometers especially those seasonal vehicles that get laid over for weeks at a time but not enough to qualify for the 3 months exemption.
