1301039 2012-09-15 05:26:00 I have fixed the problem of unremovable file. Removed the ssd and bought a new one!
This, of course leaves me with a 320 gig hard drive with an 8 MB folder taking up 80 mbs of space sitting on the table.
I managed to shift this folder into a new drive. It is "BOOT" folder from windows 7. I can not reduce the drive below 80 gigs.I can not remove the folder even though I have a fresh install of win 7 on a new ssd.
I have ordered a third ssd which will become my D: drive, so I should be trouble free for a while.
TO CLARIFY: I had one 320 gig drive partitioned into C: and D:. For some reason the "BOOT" folder packed up and moved to D: The computer still worked but BOOT would not go home. I got a new ssd and cloned windows on to it. It worked so the folder must be a copy. I have ordered a third SSD which I will re-install the former contents of D:

All I would like to do now is to remove the contents on my original disk. It seems a shame to see a perfectly good SSD sitting on the table gathering dust. Especialy when it cost about $1500 when I bought it.

1301040 2012-09-15 05:35:00 Have you tried formatting it?

This site recommends a secure erase and quick format for SSDs
Don't use one myself so can't really help further.

.
Connect it on it's own. Boot from either the Windows CD or some other O/S CD. Remove all partitions. Stop after this point.
Gone.

I booted with an XP disk and stopped it on the drives page and then deleted. It worked. Thanks.
