| 1277127 | 2012-05-24 07:48:00 | Looking at the budget, saw that they plan to introduce tax to people under 18 (me!) Absolutely Disgusted! Short sighted, petty, awful. :horrified |

But the thing with me is that while they have tax for bach homes rented out, what about long term property speculation .... (ie. those three words - capital gains tax). And were they too scared to tax booze more but thought that smokers were gonna be more alright ... I think they are running out of ways to balance the books after dropping the highest tax rate. Like kiddies tax rate, increasing the student loan repayment amount, taking out the bonus if you make additional student loan payments, higher medicine costs. Taking out childcare subsidies. They are just not doing CGT or increasing the pension age or increase the booze tax cos they know people will protest. |

| 1277132 | 2012-05-24 09:07:00 | pcuser42 you know that they recently said 4yr maxed for student allowances. they now say, all postgraduate students will not be eligible for allowances even within the 4yr period other than if they are doing a honours course. Like if they choose to skip Hons but do a one year Masters .. they also put a cap on how much pilot students can get a loan for now. in a way, maybe they have given up on retaining students here. they seems to be placing more efforts in upping the student loan payment amount and gathering monies from other countries off people. and the one thing that is about to come in force soon is that if you have $500 outstanding (perhaps to the govt) it will block you getting a student loan. |

So what? It's an interest-free loan. The bitching and moaning students should suck it up and try paying interest on it, then we'll see who's really crying! and the one thing that is about to come in force soon is that if you have $500 outstanding (perhaps to the govt) it will block you getting a student loan. Too bloody right, if you owe money and are proven to not repay it then why the hell would they wanna loan you more when track record shows you won't repay it? That's just retarded!! Anyways, I don't like the budget, lets hold a referendum about it! ;) |

| 1277136 | 2012-05-24 09:40:00 | www.stuff.co.nz Maybe I'm missing something, but we're all familiar with how steep the cost of road work is, yet it only comes to 2.2b (Transport & Comms), whereas the fat assed laywers, politicians and their assistants get $6.5b (Core Govt Services). Taking the assumption that our 4 million population consists of 2 million earners (sorry, those on benefits do not count as earners, despite the token inclusion of taxes on their benefits) (and we have fewer than 2 million true earners), then that 6.5 billion of govt services comes to more than $3,000 per worker. What the @#$% do we each get for that $3000 of our taxes? I reckon Wellingtons fat cats need to get culled, then maybe we'll have some money to go around. By the way, the maths doesn't stack up on the graphic. 73.7b - 64.2b = 9.5b deficit, not the 7.9b shown. But fear not taxpayers, the boffins have only @#$% the figures by $1.6b (and the interest on it) that we'll all have to pay. And then there's the local body taxes and debt servicing expenses too. |
