| 51157 | 2002-05-27 22:52:00 | I operate Win ME with etrust virus scan. Today's scan picked up Benjamin in a folder in Restore\Temp. But I can't find it in explorer to delete it. Any ideas? Also, there are many files in this folder - could they be deleted safely like other temp folders? Cheers | Guest (0) | ||

Anyway, try this to see if you can see the file (and I'm not sure if this will work as I don't have Windows ME anymore so it's totally from memory - and what XP looks like) Open Windows Explorer and then go: Tools > Folder Options > View tab Look down the list and there should be an option there for 'Hidden Files and Folders' > Click the radio button that says 'Show hidden files and folders' > Click OK and OK again. Then go to the path that the virus scan told you the file was located at and see if you can see the file. HTH Callum |

My Computer > Properties > That will open up device manager but along the bottom of that is three options, you will need to open each one as I cannot remember the one you are looking for but clicking them will open a new window, in one of those is Disable System Restore, place a tick in there and it should prompt you to reboot to finish. Now run your virus scanner. Once the scan is complete and the virus is removed you can go through the above process to reset the System Restore or you can leave it disabled. |

You will need to disable System Restore so that your virus scanner can get access to the folder. My Computer > Properties > Performance > File System > Trouble Shooting > Place Tick in Disable System Restore > Ok > Reboot. Now run your virus scanner. Once the scan is complete and the virus is removed you can go through the above process to reset the System Restore or you can leave it disabled. |
