51421 2002-05-29 08:08:00 Since upgrading to XP my firewall (ZA) came up with the program 'generice host process for Win32 services' and I just blocked it, but it keeps bugging me, just what exacly is it? I have noticed after changing settings that it acesses the net a lot and well yesh, microsofts site wasn't too much help, so maybe one of you know it's purpose and if it really needs to acess the net. 51422 2002-05-29 12:04:00 Evening,

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services all so known as svchost.exe is indeed a legit microsoft process / application installed on all 2000 and XP pc's.

To my knowledge this process handles DNS lookups. Therefore pretty much needed.

Allow this to connect to the internet and allow as server in Zonealarm, and Dont worry about it. Otherwise you may experience degraded internet services !!!
