51601 2002-05-30 10:20:00 Pop ups? What are they?

Been using Outpost for a few weeks now and can't remember the last time I saw a pop up.

PS Is your pooter older and slower than mine? Pent II 266, Win 98. Got 152MB RAM though :-)

51602 2002-05-30 10:23:00 There are a number available. The one I use is freeware, AdIEFiltr, amongst other things it stops banners as well as popups.
You can get it from:

There are other interesting utilities on this site.

Cheers

51603 2002-05-30 10:34:00 Yep! Mine slower - same 'cept I only got 32Mb RAM - and it's a laptop. And I'm running an old and overused 15' monitor plugged into it 'cos the backlight tube is blown and it is cheaper to buy a monitor than to get the panel fixed .. Guest (0)
51604 2002-05-30 10:45:00 I use Pop Up Stopper available from www.panicware.com. It is easy to install and does not seem to affect any other programs and it is free (donations requested) and I can still use Audio Galaxy no probs. The relief from endless pop-ups is amazing. Guest (0)

51606 2002-05-30 12:03:00 Apparently some pop-up killers can change some of your settings, so if you get problems after installing a killer it might be worth uninstalling and trying another. Guest (0)
51607 2002-05-30 19:15:00 Hello,

I use to use webwasher and was very impressed especially since I used to have a site hosted with geocities. Never saw x10 again after that.

Since changing to Opera as my dominant browser I no longer have pop ups, pop unders, and also cookies and spyware have gone as well, and so no need for webwasher. You mentioned a slow puter. Opera could help with that as well.

51608 2002-05-30 22:49:00 Why haven't I got a Hosts file? I should have one, shouldn't I?

I've got Hosts.sam and Lmhosts.sam though.

Win 98.
