51582 2002-05-30 08:33:00 I ma running windows xp home on a machine with a 1.2GHz processor and 256MB of RAM and a 40 gig 5400rpm HD. When I run photoshop 7 it sometimes runs really slow and it also hangs when I try to use the paintcan or magic erraser. Has anybody else experienced these problems or know what is going on. Guest (0)
51583 2002-05-30 14:31:00 Photoshop likes to have a swap file at a reasonable size even if you have plenty of RAM. You could try increasing your swap file by going into system properties, advanced, performance, settings, advanced, virtual memory, change and set it so that you have a reasonable amount. If you don't mind losing 128-256MB of Hard Drive space you should set it to this.

Hopefully this fixes the speed problem and it hanging. If not others may have suggestions too.

51584 2002-05-31 05:55:00 Ok I looked where you said to and it says i have 384MB initial and 768mb max.
What should I do ? do I just increase the initial one to about 600mb or 700mb ?
I got plenty of HD space so im not worried about running out of space or any thing.

On another note photoshop 7 seems to be running well today so prehaps some other program hadnt let go of RAM, but i would still like to increase the swap file

51585 2002-06-05 02:39:00 Maybe the speed of your hard disk is the limiting factor:

I run ps7 on a winXP, duron 800, 256mb RAM with a 60GB 7200rpm drive.

I have not experienced any of the problems you mention, and I do some pretty intense processing with photoshop.

Cheers,
