51485 2002-05-29 21:53:00 Every time I open an Office 2000 Application, it remains open for 1-5 seconds and then apparently closes. I say apparently because if I open, say Word 2000, for second time, I just have time to notice that it has opened with Document 2.

I have just completely re-installed Office 2000 and it still continues to misbehave.

I am running Windows 2000.

51486 2002-05-29 22:12:00 Is your version from the original cd or a copied CD
I have seen this happen before, but the person who had it was using a copied copy of a copy.

could be a cause.
Otherwise, if it is the original, have you had it installed before, and had it working. if you have, have you installed anything new lately, maybe win 2000 is the problem.

Finaly have you tried borrowing someone elses cd and tried installing it from that. Maybe your disk is faulty or become faulty.

51487 2002-05-29 22:20:00 This sounds like its a problem due to non registration of the program.

Office 2k requires an 'activation' process to prevent piracy, on versions bought here at least. If its not registered with microsoft I believe it closes. You get 50? uses until registered. It stops people copying or lending the CD

51488 2002-05-29 23:48:00 If you do a crtl-alt-del and look at the running tasks, is Word in there? Have you tried Excel to see if this runs ok. Word maybe failing its initialisation process and just dropping out. Guest (0)

1. Does your Office functions correctly before or it has never been working properly since you last installed it?

2. Have you installed any new software lately? If so, what is it?

3. Check the Serial Number of you Office 2K. If it starts with GC6J3 XXXX ...., then, you've a problem. It is most likely that your copy is not original.

Solution 1: Get the original software and re-install your Office 2K

solution 2: Hunt for another set of 'known good' serial number and use this to re-install your Office 2K.

Good Luck

51490 2002-05-30 11:20:00 Try running the Repair Office option which does not require a reboot, and see if you can open either Excel or Word afterwards.
Adobe Acrobat can screw Office 2000 but Repair will fix it - until the next reboot... sigh!
