| 51467 | 2002-05-29 12:08:00 | As the amazing title states, outlook express is annoying me, I run PC-Cillin 2000, since it came with the computer, and it seems to conflict with outlook, changing the pop3 address to localhost every time you start the computer, I can change it manually but it's just plain annoying. I run WinXP, AMD 2000+, 256 DDR Ram 60gig hard drive and such..though that doesn't really matter as it did it all on Win ME too. Any ideas? Thanks. |

| 51470 | 2002-05-29 20:01:00 | If you have mail scan enabled in PC Cillin it has to change the incoming mail server address to enable this to work. Sometimes it will not connect to the mail server with these settings. If you have to change the server address to your ISP setting to be able to download mail then you could disable mail scanning in PC Cillin options, this will stop the server address changing to local host. |

| 51471 | 2002-05-29 21:36:00 | Because so many people use outlook, and windows, most viri are written to target this OS, and email client. If you are going to use outlook (i use OE too) PLEASE make sure you have your email scanned on the way in. This is what the localhost setting is about, when it says 'localhost' read 'scan incoming mail with PC-Cillin 2000' You will regret bypassing this feature when someone you know gets a virus, and thier computer sends it to you all by itself! Allthough i use NAV, scanning on the way in has saved my butt far too many times. Which reminds me, time for an update, i haven't done that this week yet. |

| 51472 | 2002-05-29 23:46:00 | solutionbank.antivirus.com Title: Unable to receive or send email due to changes in the email account settings made by PC-cillin 2000. Problem: When using certain email client programs, PC-cillin 2000 changes the POP or Post Office Protocol server settings to 'localhost' and the username field or box to 'username/pop server name'. This issue has been reported for the following email clients: * Microsoft Outlook 2000 * Microsoft Outlook Express * Netscape Messenger After the changes have been made, the user receives an error message when attempting to check or send email messages. Solution: This issue occurs because PC-cillin 2000's POP3 Scan functions like a proxy between the e-mail client and the POP3 server. In order to perform this function, PC-cillin 2000 needs to change the email clients' settings as follows: POP3 server : 'localhost' Username : 'original username/original POP3 server name' Example: If the original POP3 server is 'mailserver.com', and the username is 'username,' the settings will be modified as follows: POP3 server : localhost Username : username/mailserver.com Normally, this should not create any issues for the user. However, if any issues connecting to your mail server are encountered, Trend Micro recommends the following workarounds: A. Update PC-cillin 1. In the Windows desktop, open the PC-cillin main program by clicking Start > Programs > Trend PC-cillin 2000 > Trend PC-cillin 2000. 2. In the menu bar, click File > Update > Update Now. 3. Select 'Update Now From Internet (program and pattern file)', then click 'Next'. D. Define the PC-cillin Port By default, PC-cillin communicates through port 110 and does not have to be defined in PCC2K95.INI (for Win 95/98/ME) or PCC2KNT.INI (for Win NT Workstation & 2000 Pro). However, the program sometimes fails to recognize that it is supposed to communicate through port 110, and needs to be reconfigured as follows: 1. Go to the Windows folder, which depends on the version of the Windows operating system being used: For Windows 95 / 98 / ME : :\Windows For Windows NT Workstation & 2000 Pro : :\Winnt 2. Find the Pcc2K95.ini (for Win 95/98/ME) or Pcc2knt.ini (for Win NT/2KPro) file and open it using a text editor (e.g. Notepad). 3. Scroll down to the [POP3] section. If editing the pcc2knt.ini file, create or add a [POP3] section, which by default, is unavailable or not present in this file. 4. Under the [POP3] section, add or type the following lines: ListenPort=110 ConnectPort=110 5. Save the modified Pcc2K95.ini (for Win 95/98/ME) or Pcc2knt.ini (for Win NT/2KPro) file. 6. Reboot the computer. 7. Check your email. Messages should be received with server setting set to 'localhost'. |
