| 51586 | 2002-05-30 08:37:00 | Hello all, Recentley I installed Windows XP pro and bought Office XP Pro to go with it. I was disapointed to find that large text Documents and Spread sheets, seem to take much longer to load than they did with Office97 and when they do formatting updates and other functions seem very sluggish. For example I have a 13 page (69kb) text document that takes 2+ minutes to load. Is this normal? I have tried the help file with little luck, and I cant see Find fast in the control panel(F1 previous post :) In Windows task manager there seems to be upwards of 27 processes running most times I check, which seems alot. I have an fairly powerful system (AMD 1200c 512MB Ram) The only reason I upgraded my OS and major app's was for better hardware support for various peripherals. But in view of Office XP's sluggish behaviour wonder if its worth it .... |

I used the website at the bottom of this post as a guide to what to stop in the way of services. Read carefully as you may want to keep some of the services unning even though the website recommends to stop them. this is because your machine may be used for different purposes than the authors. It is still a very useful site, and any service you stop can always be started again. To modify services goto control panel>perforance and maintenance>administrator tools>services <www.blkviper.com G P |

| 51588 | 2002-06-03 06:18:00 | I tried disabling various services, I have noticed a faster loading time for windows its self, but Office is little more responsive. Office seems to be the only lagard on the system atm and only on some (large-complex) documents. The funny thing is the same docs open much faster on the alternative system in office97. That system is a celeron 266 with 128mb of ram :) I had a look at the security settings etc. in OfficeXP but couldn't really see anything there which 'screamed resource hog' or 'enable me to slow opening stuff down by 750%' It seems to me that Officexp is going through some process or another when it opens these files, what I dont know. I tried saving them from Officexp as new version document with no noticble difference. Does any 'Office XP-guru' have any ideas? |
