51569 2002-05-30 07:26:00 Hi,

I have the opportunity to get my hands on one of these.

1) Has anyone used one before?

2)What are they like?

3)Any known problems or reasons to stay away?

4) What sort of price should I be looking at in order to get a fair deal?

Any other comments?

Can't help with most of your questions... have used Compaq iPaq.

1. Compaq iPaq used.

2. hey its great

3. its only WinCE

4. See comments below and offer $1.

However note with the merger of HP and Compaq (HPQ) they are dropping all the HP netServer, Pavillion, Journada etc... (can't remeber the rest) and they will be keeping the equivalent Compaq models of these computers.

51571 2002-05-30 11:49:00 Hi, cheers B.

I too have used an iPaq. Uni has just got a gew to play with, and I borrowed one for a week. Gave it back very quickly as soon as I realised I had started to REALLY want one. Even at the discounted price of $1200 for the blue tooth model that I could have got one thru uni, I did not want to spend that sort of cash. Gave it back before I talked myself into it.

Serioussly though, should I stay away? Realistic price?? They were thinking around the $200 mark. What would be a realistic figure?

I thought $100 sounded reasonable, but then again, I have no basis for this, and am shooting at thin air.

Thanks again.

51572 2002-05-30 12:21:00 Is it the monochrome 320LX you are talking about? They are good little machines, and the built in software is rather useful (word, excel etc) and the keyboard isnt actually that bad to use. On the downside, if you are using the machine on battery power battery life is not great. If you have the screen backlight on for any length of time, power consumption goes right up. Dont even think about using a PCMCIA modem while on batteries as you will get shut down in less than 1/2 an hour (depends on battery type). Maybe I wasnt looking in the right places, but I didnt actually find that much in the way of free WinCE software on the net that was actually any good. The monochrome screen is clear enough in average light conditions, but a bit of reflection or sunlight can rain on your parade, making the backlight necessary. Anyways, if you can get hold of one at a good price go for it. They are very handy and have a decent amount of storage capacity. Guest (0)
51573 2002-05-31 02:01:00 Yeah Jaime, thats the one. I want it mainly for land surveying type calculations, and I am in the process of finding software for it before I decide if it will do what I want. Thanks for the reveiw.
