| 51773 | 2002-05-31 10:46:00 | Hi again, Need a good free program for cleaning invaild registry files, duplicate files and the like. I have got a free ware program called Easycleaner, but don't understand it at all well, also have Space Odyessy 2.0 understand that even less. You see my problem, I need a program that oldies can use. I used the Easycleaner program and it looks like I have hundreds of duplicate files, that the program said would take about 370 hours to check and as for the unnecessary files well I gave up at that. | 51776 | 2002-06-01 02:24:00 | A bit of advice on duplicate files..... it's best not to delete duplicates. Firstly, its not uncommon for there to be duplicate system files, in c:\windows\system, and the same file(s) in a program folder. In fact its very much better for a program to write dll files to its own program folder, with the proviso that 2 instances of the same file cannot be in use at the same time. Secondly you may have, for example, dozens of files called readme.txt, or setup.exe. They will all be different, generally, and you wont want to delete any. So I would be very careful indeed about using the delete duplicates in these kind of utilities, you really really need to know what can or cannot be deleted. |
