| 52036 | 2002-06-02 03:24:00 | A dual boot system will overcome my WinXP compatibility problem. Question is - How do I create a dual boot system? Help please ! |

Secondly, the other OS will need its own partition. This means you need to obtain a copy of Partition Magic or a similar program. You could use FDISK, but you will erase the contents of your drive. Here's the second dose of bad news. The Win 9x partition MUST!!! be C:\ This will most likely involve all sorts of trouble-causing by shifting data around your disk. My suggestion is to back-up all your data, and start from scratch. I think you have to install Win 9x etc first any way to stop them overwriting the XP boot sector. Also note, Win 9x and ME can only read FAT or Fat32 partitions. This means that if you format any partition as NTFS, your Win 9x OS won't recognise it. All that said, here is a link to knowledge base article that have step-by-step instructions. <support.microsoft.com Good luck, and any probs reply to this post. G P |

| 52038 | 2002-06-02 10:08:00 | Thanks I will check with the support site and give it a go! The 2 systems (necessary thanks to compatibility problems with WinXp)I want to run are WinME and WinXp I don't mind losing data, I am used to that :) | Guest (0) | ||
| 52039 | 2002-06-02 22:55:00 | I installed Windows XP (full version)onto a seperate partition about a month ago, while leaving Windows ME on the original C drive. XP installed a Multi boot menu automatically during setup. I now get to choose which operating system I want to run. Of course I had done a backup of all my important files first. Hope this helps Dave |
