To attempt to get XP to shut the computer off iteslf, try going to 'System Properties' (press Windows + Pause/Break keys together), select 'Hardware', 'Device Manager'. Select the 'View' menu and check 'Show Hidden Devices'. You should now see 'NT Apm/Legacy Support. Expand this and select 'NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node' Select properties for this item and enable it. Work your way back out! This may or may not work - some bios versions won't co-operate with XP. |

| 52190 | 2002-06-03 05:00:00 | Wuppo is correct. Try holding the button in for 4 secs. Before you try his next suggestion however, right click the desktop, select properties and then the screen saver tab. Now click the 'power' button at the bottom of the window. Select the APM tab (if it is not present, try the advanced tab. If there is an option to enable APM, check the box and OK your way out. If the option does not exist, procede with wuppo's further instructions. Power Options can also be found in the control panel under performance and maintenance in category view. G P |
