| 52146 | 2002-06-02 22:43:00 | It seems to me that when using Kazaa (non-lite) there is a file called cd_clint.dll (about 186k in size) installed on your computer. This allows use of cydoor spyware. If you appropriately rename/remove this file and replace it with a dummy with same name (you can get appropriate dummy from the internet, about 43k in size) then no more cydoor spyware problems (at least none on my machine that adaware can detect, no other spyware either). I think someone said elsewhere on this forum that Kazaa needs spyware to run. I don't think this is entirely right. | Guest (0) | ||
| 52147 | 2002-06-03 01:58:00 | nice to see but your not quite right. kazaa and others need the spyware module to run, even if its a fake one. the latest adaware ignores the fake dll and it will find the real one. i wonder how long it is until cydoor make it so their prog can tell if you have the fake file or not. small tip.....make a self extracting zip file of the fake spyware so when a program over writes it you can reinstall the fake one with one click. btw kazaa lite 1.7.1 is out. |

| 52148 | 2002-06-03 02:27:00 | It was probably me who said it. Versions of adaware earlier than the latest one would remove the fake file too. Kazaa needs the file there, fake or not. this is what I meant. This was so that people would not accidently remove the file, real or not, and then blame me for kazaa not working. You are in fact correct - kazaa doesn't need the spyware, it only needs to think it is there. I just didn't want to confuse anyone. Thanks tweak'e - I am sick of Kazaa reminding me to update. G P |
