I have a laptop with a Passive DSTN screen which although works is a bit blotgy. If I was to obtain a good used TFT screen to fit, of the same dimension (12.5ins) would it necessarily have to be of the same make and model or just the same size |

it will need to be same make and same model.
prob easier and cheaper to buy a 2nd hand entire laptop with tft screen. or simply replace laptop. screens are normallyl not interchangeable - get them via broken laptops. |

The backlight on my laptop screen has blown. Repairs and parts not cheap. So now it is a desktop attached to a cheap 2nd hand 15' CRT monitor. |

A DSTN laptop uses different electronics (ie video card) so you would not be able to just swap in a TFT screen. |
