52439 2002-06-04 09:32:00 I have started using Linux Mandrake 8.2. My win modem doesn't work under Linux so any Linux software I download has to be done through Windows ME etc and saved to my ME partition. I am trying to install downloaded software(eg openoffice.org), but cannot seem to access my Windows ME partition from within Linux. Geoff Palmer said Linux can access all files on a windows partition in his 'tux moves in'column but I cannot seem to do this.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Paul.

52440 2002-06-04 09:42:00 Visit http://www.linmodems.org/ and get the Linux Driver for your Winmodem.

Your Me Partition should have have been automatically mounted as /mnt/win_c by LM8.2
Check it out

52442 2002-06-05 03:17:00 You can see what disks are mounted (and where) by opening a terminal window, and typing 'mount'. A WinME *should* have been set up to be mountable (IF the appropriate option was set at install time).

My favourite response to modem problems is: 'Winmodems were 'designed' to be as cheap as possible and run on Windows systems'. Modems which connect to a computer through a serial port are designed to work as modems.

There are an increasing number of driver modules for various winmodems: some are easier to install than others.
