52383 2002-06-04 07:08:00 Recently removed mitsumi floppy disk drive from Win98SE machine to another. On returning to original machine, drive will no longer read or recognise? disks.
Win explorer (& powerdesk) list the drive correctly but won't read disks, returns 'Disk is not formatted' even though disk is ok.
CMOS lists 3.5, 1.44mb FD
Have removed FD & FD controllers from sys devices and reinstalled with no luck.
Same result on trying same pc with a second FD drive.
Any suggestions appreciated

52385 2002-06-05 01:39:00 It is possible that one of the cable cores has become damaged. Try a different cable or try your cable in another computer. If the cable and connections are OK, try booting into DOS by using F8 at startup (don't use the Restart in DOS option from the shut-down menu), then from the C:> prompt type 'a:', press Enter, then 'Dir', press enter. This will show whether or not the drive is recognised in DOS. Post back if the problem persists. Guest (0)
52386 2002-06-05 04:12:00 (1) if the LED on the bezel stays on, the cable is in upside down.

(2) if the cable has three connectors on it, the end connector *nearest* the twisted section of cable goes to the drive, the far one goes to the MB. (The middle connector is for drive B:).

(3) could be bad cable (but it's usually the pins which break, and they're on the drive, not the cable connector).
