52297 2002-06-03 23:02:00 Running XP Home on Duron 1300 with 256mb RAM. Keep getting serious error messages that create dump files but don't know what to do with them, can't even read them again once I close them.
The whole system seems slow.
Also, have trouble getting decent connection speeds on Xtra dialup, usually average 29 - 34 on my 56k modem. Weird when the kids machine, 200mmx with 64mb RAM, averages 36kps. Tried Sisoft Sandra and PCPitstop which indicates everythings fine. NOT!

52298 2002-06-03 23:46:00 hmmm check that the heatsink fan of the cpu is working and the front mounted fan in the case is working also. I'm thinking that due to heat ur getting error messages...and try to swap ur comp. modem with the kids machines, just to see if theres any difference..sometimes its the model of the modem that is slow (in ur case)...

52299 2002-06-04 10:09:00 Re XP xtra connection speeds. I too was having trouble with my speed dropped from around 50 down to about 32. I E-Md into Xtra help Desk & asked why this was so. Did not get an answer but a couple of days later I was back up tp about 50. Coincidentally in todays Herald, Tuesday 4th, computer page this problem was aired. I suggest you read it. It says that Telecom is 'Sharing' phone lines in some areas due to a SHORTAGE OF LINES John M Guest (0)
52300 2002-06-05 00:53:00 Cheers, it's not the CPU overheating, the case has an extra fan in it and the exhaust air is cool. The modem was originally running in the mid 40s kps range when we first connected and now only gets there very occasionally. Guest (0)
