52526 2002-06-05 04:22:00 Still haven't got the answer to this - somewhere you can tell your pc to question before opening certain types of email attachments eg .doc or .xls. Damned if I can remember where I set this up on my pc - please help me someone. Guest (0)
52527 2002-06-05 04:46:00 What e-mail client are you using?

(eg. Outlook Express, The Bat, Eudora)

52529 2002-06-05 09:17:00 If you have an e-mail attachment about which you are not sure, and it is or should be text-based (.doc, .xls etc), try opening it initially with a text editor (eg Notepad). This will protect you from disguised executables as a text editor does not grant execution rights therefore an executable cannot run. Guest (0)
52530 2002-06-05 22:56:00 Try this...

It is not very elegant, and may take you a while, but it
works. Here goes :

Open up Windows Explorer
Choose the 'View' menu, then 'Options'
Click on the 'File Types' tab.
This will give you a list of all the file extensions registered on your PC,
scroll down the list until you get to the ones you want.
Select the extension type that you want to control, then click on the 'Edit'
button
A small dialog box will appear, down the bottom, just under the 'New...'
button there is a checkbox labelled :
'Confirm Open After Download', if this is checked then you will be prompted
in IE, OE and Outlook, if unchecked you won't be prompted.
It's then a case of going though each of these and checking or unchecking
the box on this option.

Have tested this in Outlook, Word docs used to just open, now after checking
I am prompted, should be the same for OE.

Unfortunately there is no in app command for this (tools/options etc...),
