52491 2002-06-05 01:33:00 I have been asked why a friend's win98SE does not always shut down- sometimes she has great diffulculty- even to switching off at the hotpoint.
I have had this problem intermitently but now I must find the answer.
In June 'netguide' is an article that concedes that this is a typical problem and to go to a microsoft site. I did this( by the way the numbers given by netguide are not correct- a new number is on the site.
BUT how do I apply the download?

52493 2002-06-05 02:45:00 The download fix is an executable programme (.exe). With this particular programme simply double click on it and let it run. Guest (0)
52494 2002-06-05 05:24:00 Also look at the www.wintrouble.com. It covers a multitude of Windows related problems and has an 2 sections on startup and shutdown problems.

Go to the Windows 98 section then see sections 21 and 22 for startup / shutdown problems.

Good luck

52496 2002-06-05 07:13:00 My favourite response - check windows update its free and updates & fixes a lot of issues.

In IE 4 or later click on Tools> windows updates> select Product updates, it will then check your PC for updates that you require - all without sending any infomation to Micro$oft -Yeah right!

52497 2002-06-07 10:11:00 Hi

When I have had problems shutting down windows 98 se I have run nortons windoctor. It usualy finds a problem in the registry from incompletely deleated files.
Just my experiance.
