| 52476 | 2002-06-04 23:33:00 | gidday, i am currently dual booting win me and red hat 7.2 but would like to remove the linux partiton as i am running out of space.i am using partition magic 7.0 and im unsure of where to start deleting partitons. my disk currently looks like this: unallocated 7.8mb extended 1.4gb linux ext2 62.7mb linux swap 1900mb linux ext2 12gb fat 32 24gb i would also like to know if it is possible to save things like latest virus definitions and software updates obtained online before formatting a disk so as to avoid having to download them again after reinstalling programs. thank you |

| 52477 | 2002-06-05 02:24:00 | So there are two linux partitions and you wish to remove Linux. Interesting question you pose in relation to your excellent description. As for removing the linux loader, perhaps a search may assist you. Sarcasm? Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and wit is the highest form of houmour. |

| 52479 | 2002-06-05 04:47:00 | You would regain more space by deleting the WinME partition. ;-) . The numbers don't add up in your extended partition: 1.9GB + 62.7 MB is bigger than 1.4GB . But, if you want to give up Linux, delete the logical partitions, then the extended one. You can delete the 12GB one directly if it is an ordinary partition. This should all be in the README etc documentation files with Partition Manager ... Before you do this, you should (in linux) do 'lilo -u'; if you have grub I think that this does not work), or in MSDOS do 'FDISK /MBR'. That will reenable the Windows/Dos boot. Don't be tempted to try to run FDISK interactively: the only partition it will recognise and let you delete is the M<S one. The easiest way to avoid reloading everything would be to just make a new MS partition out of this free space as your D: drive. (Or Partition Manager might let you combine the space into one ... Read The Fine Manuals, especially the warnings about possible data loss. Hint, nudge, nudge, say no more ... |
