52829 2002-06-06 22:38:00 on my start up menu I have a shortcut to windows update, but when i click on it I get a message that says Windows update was disabled by your systems administrator What does this mean? Guest (0)

Is your computer your own personal computer or is it on a work network or a computer administered by someone else?

It's weird that if they disabled the update they'd leave the icon there.

You can still get the update information by going to the Microsoft web site for whichever Windows version you have and looking for updates there. The start is obviously www.microsoft.com
...from there I'm afraid the address will depend on your version of Windows - so you'll need to surf :)

sorry it took so long to answer, it is my own home computer but has recently been into the shop to be fixed and they seem to have done something that makes it part of a network and when I got to mircrosoft to get the update I get a message that a says your organization has decided to provide software updates internally please see your network administrator
