2002-06-05 13:41:00 | What is your router and what were the settings for the pinholes you set to allow file transfers in Windows (MSN) Messenger. I have turned off the XP firewall and even disabled it in services. I use another firewall so I don't worry about XP's builtin one. Thanks KK

2002-06-05 14:28:00 | Hey Kame, I have one of the Dynalink RTA 020's. If you have one of those give the guys at Dynalink a call...they are really happy to help. Here is a link to their site for setting them up. www.dynalink.co.nz either that or if you have the user manual on CD have a look in section 6 (from memory). There are lots of really clear instructions on there. You will have to have a wander into the M$$ site for the port settings that MSN requires....... Hope this helps

2002-06-06 07:20:00 | Hiya, Completely off topic here, but don't you think it's a bloody rude and monopolistic approach to include a firewall in a OS? Next thing you know Windows will have a built in Linux Emulator... Who's going to buy their product over someone else's because it's got a built in firewall? Practically no-one... But how many people will no longer purchase ZA pro, or Norton personal firewall because XP already has one? LOTS! It's really not fair, before we know it Windows will have a complimentary computer to make sure that nobody else can make money either! Well that's my rant for today :) Erin

2002-06-06 07:29:00 | Thanks Tazzie, It's the same router as mine and I thought this was the way to setup pinholes just needed reassurance. So I did this but the problem still exists. I am uncertain where the problem could lie but it may have something to do with me disabling a lot of XP worthless services I don't use. I've configured my firewall to allow this but can't quite pinpoint the exact problem. I've monitored which port it opens but no transfers go through it and it times out closing the connection. I may uninstall my firewall as a last resort and just rely purely on my router. If still no go I will have to reinstall XP as I can't remember all the services I disabled. Thanks for your help again it's much appreciated.

I set it up correctly and tested it with my mate but in his netstat on port 6891 it had my private LAN IP and not my external IP. I don't think NAT is working correctly for me. |
