| 1303339 | 2012-09-25 10:17:00 | My friend has got a broken Macbook and he has removed the HDD from the broken machine as he's got lots of photos in it. He thinks that the HDD should still be in good working condition. Question: Can he connect that HDD to his new PC (arriving in the next couple of days) with Windows 7 OS and retrieve those photos? Or it has to be connected to another Mac machine? |

Only read. You would have to install something like Macdrive (www.mediafour.com), to read and write to the mac hdd. But its not free |

| 1303344 | 2012-09-25 12:11:00 | Just downloaded HFS Explorer but doesn't seem to be compatible with Win7 x64 system. Unfortunately, MacDrive is not free. How about Linux? Can linux read the Mac files and copy them? Anyway, even if I managed to copy out the photos from macbook drive, can Windows open those photos? |

| 1303347 | 2012-09-25 20:59:00 | Linux will read HFS IIRC but it's flaky or it may be the write that's flaky, get a linux live cd, hook the HD up to the new box, run the live cd and see if it will mount the drive. If it doesn't recognise the file system it'll simply refuse to mount it. Cheers |
