| 1303130 | 2012-09-25 00:20:00 | Hi. I'm running windows 7 and use Firefox 15.0.1 and Open Office 3.0 Whe I use the edit function in OO for documents (I'm doing an online editing course) and save them as .rtfs (as we asked to by the forum where we post our work) I sometimes, only sometimes, get Error 213 Corrupt or Missing File and it won't open. Ive looked up Error 213 and it says a windows system file damaged. I tried a system restore but that hasn't done it. I've run AVG and Malwarebytes and no change. I looked at a 213 repair tool but am unsure if they're the real thing or just some front for adware. Has anyone got any info/experience/suggestions for this? TIA Mark |

| 1303131 | 2012-09-25 00:36:00 | Actually I got it wrong. The message is from OO and reads ...."Read Error. File format error found at 213,7 (row, col)." So maybe an OO thing, not windows. Have been to OO help sites but as yet no dice. |

| 1303133 | 2012-09-25 01:10:00 | Thanks wainuitech, have done. This, I think, is an OpenOffce thing and have posted at the OO forum as well. This is probably not the right place so sorry to all -mark c | mark c (247) | ||

This is probably not the right place so sorry to all -mark c Anywhere you get an answer is the right place! :) What Acknack told you (user.services.openoffice.org) is correct. The issue is generally caused by repeated round tripping, that is editing in a binary format then back to an XML type editor and around and around. The simple fix is to retain an ODF copy of every save, a PITA, I and a number of others have advocated in the past for OOo to automatically save an ODF copy when saving to a foreign format. You can however, in "options", make it create a backup automatically, something we've thought about setting as a default. Cheers Yo |

| 1303135 | 2012-09-25 04:35:00 | Thanks Yorick but I can't actually see those posts. The Acknack link takes me to a page I can't find anything on either. I think I get the drift about changing formats. It only happens on docs done with the edit mode bits turned on, as I said. But yes, can't see the fixes. Cheers mark |

Cheers mark OK, that's odd, I got to the posts all right. OK well here's the gist of it.: First, let's call our nonopening ODT file as "bad.odt". make backup FIRST put the original into a new directory unzip bad.odt into the new directory, (I think in windows you might have to change the file extension from .odt to .zip) after unzipping you get bunch of files and directory's, find content.xml and open it with your favorite text editor use "find" function to find out, if you have XML tag "<office:automatic-styles>" (somewhere at the beginning of document) and XML tag "</office:automatic-styles>" (somewhere, middle of document). If you have, then delete them and all data between them. Be sure, that you don't delete more or less! save content.xml (keep original name and place!) zip extracted data back to a zip file and change the file extension to .odt try to open repaired document |

| 1303137 | 2012-09-25 05:57:00 | the inside of the zip file will look like this with a number of folders and files: Folder: Configurations2 Folder: META-INF Folder: Thumbnails content.xml manifest.rdf meta.xml mimetype settings.xml styles.xml and the content of the content.xml file will look a bit like this "Hello World" File although not as orderly: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <office:document-content xmlns:office="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:office:1.0" xmlns:style="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:style:1.0" xmlns:text="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:text:1.0" xmlns:table="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:table:1.0" xmlns:draw="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:drawing:1.0" xmlns:fo="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:xsl-fo-compatible:1.0" xmlns:xlink="www.w3.org xmlns:dc="purl.org xmlns:meta="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:meta:1.0" xmlns:number="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:datastyle:1. 0" xmlns:svg="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:svg-compatible:1.0" xmlns:chart="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:chart:1.0" xmlns:dr3d="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:dr3d:1.0" xmlns:math="www.w3.org xmlns:form="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:form:1.0" xmlns:script="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:script:1.0" xmlns:ooo="openoffice.org xmlns:ooow="openoffice.org xmlns:oooc="openoffice.org xmlns:dom="www.w3.org xmlns:xforms="www.w3.org xmlns:xsd="www.w3.org xmlns:xsi="www.w3.org xmlns:rpt="openoffice.org xmlns:of="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:of:1.2" xmlns:xhtml="www.w3.org xmlns:grddl="www.w3.org xmlns:tableooo="openoffice.org xmlns:field="urn:openoffice:names:experimental:ooo-ms-interop:xmlns:field:1.0" office:version="1.2"> <office:scripts/> <office:font-face-decls> <style:font-face style:name="FreeSans1" svg:font-family="FreeSans" style:font-family-generic="swiss"/> <style:font-face style:name="Times New Roman" svg:font-family="'Times New Roman'" style:font-family-generic="roman" style:font-pitch="variable"/> <style:font-face style:name="Arial" svg:font-family="Arial" style:font-family-generic="swiss" style:font-pitch="variable"/> <style:font-face style:name="Droid Sans Fallback" svg:font-family="'Droid Sans Fallback'" style:font-family-generic="system" style:font-pitch="variable"/> <style:font-face style:name="FreeSans" svg:font-family="FreeSans" style:font-family-generic="system" style:font-pitch="variable"/> </office:font-face-decls> <office:automatic-styles/> <office:body> <office:text> <text:sequence-decls> <text:sequence-decl text:display-outline-level="0" text:name="Illustration"/> <text:sequence-decl text:display-outline-level="0" text:name="Table"/> <text:sequence-decl text:display-outline-level="0" text:name="Text"/> <text:sequence-decl text:display-outline-level="0" text:name="Drawing"/> </text:sequence-decls> <text:p text:style-name="Standard"> Hello World </text:p> </office:text> </office:body> </office:document-content> One thing to look for is the same line repeated. You can do this easiest with an XML parser, not sure about what's available for windows but they are out there. |

| 1303138 | 2012-09-25 07:06:00 | Thanks but that's a bit over my head. I'll try saving it as an .odt file and see if that works. And I'll try openingit as suggested and lookingfor repeated lines but as I don't know what I'm doing am reluctant to meddle too much. Maybe find another way of saving the edits. Appreciate your attention. Cheers mark | mark c (247) | ||
| 1303139 | 2012-09-27 20:27:00 | Got it fixed. It is an issue with OO saving in other formats as suggested. Provided I stick to using the editing functions absolutely correctly, not taking shortcuts like using the mouse pointer to highlight bits of text to be edited then it works OK. Maybe I just got a bit careless. Seems to work now anyway. Thanks very much for the responses and the suggestions. Much appreciated - Mark | mark c (247) | ||
