1302245 2012-09-19 09:24:00 I am helping a young friend of mine with a school project, and as part of it he has set up a blog here (makingamodeldavincicatapult.wordpress.com) (helped by someone else). I know little about blogs, and nothing about Wordpress, but it appears that comments aren't being saved. If I go to the page I can see a comment I posted, and I know there have been others but I can't see them. Is it the case that I can see what I have posted, but only Charlie can see everything, or is there something else happening (or not happening)?

Charlie needs all the help he can get, so any insights from this forum will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

1302246 2012-09-19 09:33:00 Er....the stuff I wasn't good with at Work.....

However, Wordpress does have it's own forums:
wordpress.org

And loads of knowlegebase stuff and tech support of it's own.

I often used to cheat and consult it.

1302247 2012-09-19 11:08:00 Thanks. I was hoping to avoid actually having to register at Wordpress (yet another password to remember!), but I've now posted the same question there. Tony (4941)
1302248 2012-09-19 20:16:00 So what about asking your friends hosting co? pctek (84)
1302249 2012-09-19 21:34:00 I've had nothing to do with setting up the blog and have no idea who is doing the hosting - and I suspect he doesn't know either. The setup was done by another family friend (who I don't know). I've actually had a response from the Wordpress forum. It seems there is an administrative option that is on by default that requires comments to be moderated before they appear. I'm seeing Charlie later today and I'll talk to him about it and give him the details so he or his other friend can check it out. Tony (4941)
1302250 2012-09-19 22:04:00 I use wordpress.com and yes the problem is something to do having to approve or moderate any comments that are posted. He would need to go into the comments section in the dashboard and you can approve comments in there.
If he is using wordpress.com, they are the ones hosting it and they manage the security on it for you.

If he is using wordpress.org, that is a different matter. But he will approve comments the same way as I mentioned above.

1302251 2012-09-19 22:36:00 The url is wordpress.com, so I assume that answers that question. You say "they manage the security on it for you" - does that change the process he will have to go through? Tony (4941)
1302252 2012-09-19 23:07:00 No, them managing security of the site has no bearing on how comments are moderated.

He will need to login to his dashboard and open Comments (it is down on the left hand side). There is where any comments awaiting approval will be.

Good luck, also the wordpress.com forums are extremely helpful I find.

1302253 2012-09-20 00:02:00 OK, thanks. I'll report back sometime. Tony (4941)
1302254 2012-09-20 01:33:00 One more question: Are these settings manipulated directly on the server or are they local? In other words, can Charlie make these changes from my PC if he logs on to Wordpress, or does he have to be at his own? Tony (4941)
