| 1278384 | 2012-05-30 03:25:00 | I've been making a conscious effort to use the Windows 8 preview, and while I still can't see me paying for it, I'm liking it better than when I first installed it. I still don't like: The way the Metro interface is plastered over the desktop, and you can't make the desktop interface your default. The way you can't work solely in one or the other, but keep getting swapped between the two interfaces. The number of clicks/mouse movements it takes to get to the power switch if you are in the desktop. IE10 in Metro - awful! I am getting used to, and sometimes liking: The way Metro apps actually work. What do other people think? |

| 1278386 | 2012-05-30 03:36:00 | Commenting on your points: * Bit of a pain, but with third party programs you can return the start button as well as the current (w7 and before) start menu. When doing this it disables the metro completely. * See above or yep, PITA * Make a shortcut and pin it to the task bar. One click and it shuts down.Described here (www.techrepublic.com) Also see pic of mine. 3834 Doing this also puts it in the Metro interface * IE10 metro -- No comment lol |

Then I somehow caused it to go into endless reboot cycles, still don't know how that happened but I'm not sure if I can blame windows 8 or the ancient hardware I had it on (P4 3.2Ghz, 1.79 Gb of RAM ran fine) because It wouldn't boot back into XP either when I reverted until I played with the BIOS. I'm a bit resistant to metro but I'm sure over time I'd get used to it, However I won't be upgrading from windows 7 until there's a good reason to so I don't see it happening in the near future. |

But it's still a kluge - if I want to restart I have to create another shortcut to do that - unless I wanted to create some sort of vb applet to do it - but why should I have to? | Tony (4941) | ||

| 1278393 | 2012-05-30 10:53:00 | I have been using Windows 8 for 2 months and really have no problems with it. Sure some things were not where they were in previous versions of Windows but you soon learn and adapt to where they are. It actually works no differantly than Windows 7, just that some things are in differant places. :) |
