1277973 2012-05-28 07:49:00 I am getting sick of the people who say that they can not afford to clothe or feed their children, and expect the Tax payer to pay for it. At the same time they afford tobacco and booze, and Skye TV. Also have cars etc.
Bottom line is that they should not have children if they can not afford them. Multiple births to solo mothers should be banned. If they persist they should have their tubes tied.

I have three kids, all grown up now. It was a hard slog for a long time, but it was my choice. I can now indulge myself.

1277974 2012-05-28 08:34:00 You are certainly indulging yourself,... with this obnoxious twaddle! KarameaDave (15222)
1277975 2012-05-28 08:36:00 People need to get their priorities right. We all need a roof over our head and food to eat. If anything is left over after paying for food, rent or mortgage they can then spend money on luxuries like cars, tobacco and booze. Bobh (5192)
1277976 2012-05-28 08:37:00 There is a state housing area not far from us, and there are (and have been for years) sky dishes and multiple cars (some very very new) outside each one, many have dogs, a couple even have boats! Yet most of the kids have no shoes, and run up and down the street pushing stolen shopping trolleys as entertainment. inphinity (7274)

I can agree and disagree with you on this as a parent! When our Daughter was born we could afford a lot more than we can now and that was based on the worse case situation of being unemployed. We dont smoke and we dont drink and Sky Tv basic package was a luxury that now is becoming out of reach as is holidays, day trips and hiring a DVD from the video shop.

As for Cars well a neccesery evil without cars we could not get to work, we dont all live around the corner from a bus stop and public transport. In fact the cost of running a car has not much changed over the last few years compared to the cost of electricty, Council Rates, Insurance and Food!!!! Changes that are outstripping the best laid budget plans with increases in the double percentage figure compared to incomes that have pretty much frozen or increases that percentile growth means very little.

Is it your view you should have a 16 year plan in place before you have children? It is so easy to fall off the rails in that time but yes you are right some have not helped their situation with the solo plan.

Back in January I got a $1.50 per hour payrise! The first for 3 years! That soon got swallowed by our local Lines Company increasing the charges by $40 per month, not to mention the Electricity retailer increasing its cost, cost of House insurance, rates and as for the cost of food well its wiped that pay rise out and in fact could do with another one, or better still more work would be nice as well.

Bottom line is the goverment does not do enough for our children who are going to be the future of this country! Now dont get me started about pensions either.

1277979 2012-05-28 08:50:00 Hmm, just because someone lives in a state house doesn't mean their are on a benefit, the more likely scenario is their are probably working a job none of us would for minimum wage and doing 50 plus hours a week to get by. plod (107)
1277980 2012-05-28 08:51:00 spend money on luxuries like cars, tobacco and booze.

Gave up ciggies 12 years ago ... the car still goes OK ... Can I just have the booze (Speights of course) and spend the rest on pokies and loose women (AKA Pokies) ... ??? ... :D

1277981 2012-05-28 08:59:00 Let me ask thess questions!

If someone told you they were on $20 per hour and struggling to get by would you believe them?

If someone said they were on Minimum wage and getting by would you believe them?

Hourly rates mean nothing when the cost of working and living clash to the point that either becomes a problem .

1277982 2012-05-28 09:09:00 The bludgers get all they want. When it comes to genuine cases of people in need, they can't get anything from WINZ. Heard a fews years ago a mate of mine was in a difficult spot and went to get a food grant and couldn't get one. Yet they overheard somebody also in the WINZ office was getting a 42 inch TV because their family was coming to stay. The system is ****ed up. QW. (15883)
